Armenian political and state figure. After graduating from school, he served in the military.
Education and Medical Career
From 1989 to 1996, he studied at the Yerevan Medical Institute, faculty of medicine. From 1996 to 1999, he completed his residency at the National Institute of Health, specializing in surgery and healthcare organization.
Public Administration and Health Sector
From 1999 to 2002, he attended the Academy of Management of Armenia, graduating with a qualification in public service, specializing in state governance and local self-government. From 1986 to 1998, he worked at the Mikayelyan Institute of Surgery as a nurse, medical assistant, and physician.
Military Service and Disability
From 1991 to 1996, he participated in battles on the borders of Armenia and in Nagorno-Karabakh. He was wounded and received a second-group disability.
Political Career
From 1998 to 2001, he served as Deputy Minister of Health of Armenia. In 1999 and 2003, he ran for parliament. He is the author and co-author of numerous bills in the field of healthcare.
Human Rights Activism
Since 2001, he has been a member of the human rights organization "Tanik" and the Public Council for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. He has filed several lawsuits to the European Court of Human Rights.
US Presidential Campaign Participation
In 2004, at the invitation of the US State Department's "International Visitors" program, he participated in the US presidential election campaign.
