Hovhannesyan was born on November 26, 1904, in Tbilisi, Georgia. She studied in the village of Sanain and later moved to Tbilisi with her family due to financial difficulties. In 1918, she made her acting debut in the role of Anush in Tigranyan's opera.
Theater Career
Hovhannesyan joined the Tiflis Armenian Drama Theater in 1923 and the Leninakan Drama Theater named after A. Mravyan in 1929. In 1940, she moved to the Sundukyan Theater in Yerevan, where she remained for the rest of her career.
Awards and Legacy
Hovhannesyan was recognized as a People's Artist of the USSR in 1972. She passed away in Yerevan on June 28, 1987, and was buried in the pantheon of Komitas Park.
Family
Hovhannesyan was married to Varthan Mkrtichovich Ajemian, an actor and theater director who also held the title of People's Artist of the USSR. Their son, Alexander Vardanovich Ajemian, was a composer and People's Artist of the Armenian SSR.
