Anson Mount

Anson Mount, the only son of sportswriter Anson Adams Mount II and professional golfer Nancy Smith, was born on February 25, 1973, in White Bluff, Tennessee, a town with a population of approximately 2,000. He has an older stepbrother, Anson III, and stepsisters, Kristin and Elizabeth.
Mount's acting career began at Dickson County High School in Dickson, Tennessee, where he was encouraged by friends to audition for the school's production of "Twelve Angry Men." He also performed as the Undertaker in "The Death and Life of Sneaky Fitch" and had a lead role in "Harvey" during his high school years. He graduated in 1991.
Acting Career
After graduating from the University of the South, Mount earned his Master of Fine Arts degree in 1998 from Columbia University in New York City. He also attended the Michael Howard Studios in New York, and made his television debut in 1999, with roles in "Sex and the City" and "Ally McBeal."
Mount has since appeared in 33 film and television roles, with the historical TV movie "Hell on Wheels" (2011), set during the American Civil War, and the thriller "Straw Dogs" (2011), starring alongside Kate Bosworth and James Marsden, among his upcoming releases.
Personal Life
A Southern gentleman at heart, Mount continues to reside in New York, with a view of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine from his bathroom window. While he occasionally misses his Tennessee roots, the diversity of culture that New York offers is ultimately what draws him to the city.
In his free time, Mount enjoys photography, writing, and studying the work of his favorite poet, Andrew Hudgins.
