Soviet and Lithuanian Musician Arvydas Jurgaitis
Arvydas Jurgaitis (1969-2004), a Lithuanian-born Soviet musician, was a keyboardist and static member of the 1980s boy band "Laskovy May."
Early Life and Family
Born on October 29, 1969, in the Lithuanian SSR, Arvydas Jurgaitis moved to Moscow with his family as a child. The son of architect Linas Vladislavas Jurgaitis, he also had Russian ancestry through his grandmother, Polina Fyodorovna Kuzyakina.
Music Career
In 1988, Jurgaitis joined "Laskovy May," a groundbreaking Soviet pop group that became highly popular among teenagers. Initially hired to assist with song recordings and teach the band members keyboards, Jurgaitis's charismatic stage presence made him a fan favorite. Despite never singing, he became the second most popular member of the band after Yuri Shatunov.
After the group's breakup in 1992, Jurgaitis struggled with the loss and turned to heavy drinking to cope. He also faced health issues, including heart disease and nephritis.
Personal Life
Arvydas Jurgaitis was known for his kind and approachable personality. He was also a passionate animal lover, rescuing stray cats and supporting children in orphanages. His best friend was Sergey Serkov, a "Laskovy May" vocalist who lived with Jurgaitis and his parents for several years.
Tragic Death
On June 1, 2004, Arvydas Jurgaitis died at the age of 34 due to a tragic accident. While sleeping with a lit cigarette at his dacha, a fire broke out, and the exploding television set caused severe injuries and carbon monoxide poisoning.
Legacy
Jurgaitis was buried at the Perlovskoye Cemetery in Moscow, where he now rests alongside his father and grandmother. Despite his short life, he left a lasting imprint on the hearts of the fans who adored him.
