Ashley Marie Massaro, popularly known as Ashley Massaro, is an American professional wrestler and model. Born on May 26, 1979, in New York, Ashley developed a love for wrestling from her father and brother, who were amateur wrestlers themselves. Despite her passion for the sport, Ashley also displayed a soft and feminine side, which she showcased as a model.
Early Life and Career
Ashley Massaro gained recognition through her involvement in the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). In 2005, she participated in the Raw Diva Search and emerged as the winner, granting her entry into the prestigious organization. Her wrestling career had its ups and downs, as she faced opposition from fellow divas Candice Michelle, Torrie Wilson, and Victoria. These three wrestlers conspired against Ashley, causing her to lose a series of matches.
However, Ashley found her footing in the wrestling world and formed alliances with other strong female wrestlers. Canadian athlete Trish Stratus helped Ashley regain her position, and together, they defeated the formidable trio. Ashley went on to win several notable matches, including the Bra and Panties Gauntlet match in January 2006. Her ability to strip down during matches made her a fan favorite.
Modeling and Challenges
Ashley Massaro's skill in undressing at the right time and without hesitation made her a sought-after model for magazines. In 2007, she posed nude for Playboy, becoming the cover girl. She also had other photoshoots, including one for Maxim magazine. This modeling experience proved beneficial as Ashley had to undergo extensive physical changes in 2006 due to injuries sustained in various matches. Multiple fractures and strains led to the insertion of a metal rod in her leg.
Unfortunately, her wrestling career faced another setback when fellow wrestler Jillian Hall attacked her weak spots out of anger over Ashley's Playboy shoot. The iron rod in Ashley's leg shattered the surrounding bones, including the fibula and tibia. Despite attempts to return to the sport, Ashley announced her retirement in 2008, citing the need to care for her daughter, who was born with health issues. However, it is evident that the series of injuries had made Ashley too vulnerable for the brutal sport of wrestling.
