Early Life and Musical Beginnings
Assala Nasri, a renowned Arab singer, was born into a middle-class family in Damascus, Syria. Her father, Mostafa Nasri, was an esteemed composer and singer. Assala embarked on her musical journey at the tender age of four, performing patriotic, religious, and children's songs. Notably, she sang "Qessas Al Sho'oub" for the cartoon "Hekayat Alamiyah."
Tragic Loss and Family Support
In 1984, Assala's father passed away due to internal bleeding caused by a car accident. At the age of 15, she took on the responsibility of caring for her siblings, Amane, Ayham, Rima, and Anas, alongside her mother, Aziza Al-Babilli.
Commercial Success and Rise to Fame
Assala's commercial music career debuted in 1991 with the hit Egyptian song "Law Ta'rafou." The album featured four Egyptian songs in the Eastern operatic style of Egyptian tarab. It became an instant hit in Egypt, with heart-wrenching tracks like "Ya Sabra Yana" and "Samehtak Ketir." Her presence in the Arab world solidified amidst a flourishing industry of singers, including Angham, Najwa Karam, Latifa, and Abdelmajid Abdullah.
Humanitarian Stance on Syrian Civil War
Upon the outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2011, Assala Nasri vocalized her support for the Syrian people and allegiance to Bashar al-Assad. Her stance on the conflict is humanitarian, prioritizing an end to the conflict for the sake of Syrian civilians. She ventured into songwriting for the first time with a song released in 2011.
International Recognition and Peace Advocacy
In recognition of her dedication to the conflict, Assala performed at the International Day of Peace as a new ambassador for "Peacebuilding Through Music." Her position drew criticism, as she received polio treatment from Hafez al-Assad.
Arrest and Allegations
On June 26, 2017, Assala was arrested at Beirut International Airport for allegedly carrying cocaine. She denied any knowledge of the substances found in her possession.

Assala's first marriage was to Ayman Al Dahbi at a young age. She gave birth to her first daughter, Sham, in 1992 at the age of 22 and her first son, Khaled, in 1998. They divorced in 2005 after over 15 years of marriage. Following the divorce, she raised her two children alone.
Her second marriage was to Palestinian-American director Tarek Al-Erian on March 26, 2006. She became pregnant with Tarek's child in early 2007 but suffered a miscarriage midway through the pregnancy. Through IVF, she gave birth to twin boys, Adam and Ali, in May 2011.
