Georgy Konstentschich: A Russian Military Aviator

Early Life and Education

Georgy Konstentschich was born on August 2, 1889, in Grodno (now Belarus) to a Jewish-Belarusian family. He attended four classes at the Lithuanian Theological Seminary in 1908 and later graduated from the Vilna Military School in 1910. He then completed his military aviation training at the Gatchina Military Aviation School in 1914.

Military Service

Upon graduating from his aviation training, Konstentschich was commissioned as a sub-lieutenant and assigned to the 33rd Yeltsk Infantry Regiment on August 20, 1910. In 1914, he was sent to the Officer's Air School in Gatchina and upon completing his studies, was appointed junior officer of the Brest-Litovsk Fortress Aviation Detachment. On September 22, 1914, he was transferred to the Airship Squadron.

From December 13, 1914, Konstentschich served as acting commander of the airship "Ilya Muromets-X." By November 1915, he had become assistant commander of the airship "Ilya Muromets-V." On April 13, 1916, he was severely wounded by a bullet to the chest. After his injury, he served in the ground service of the Airship Squadron.

Post-Military Life and Death

After serving in the Imperial Russian Army, Konstentschich joined the Volunteer Army and then the Armed Forces of South Russia. Following the evacuation of Crimea, he emigrated to Yugoslavia and later to Poland. He resided in the town of Molodechno (Western Belarus), working as a cantor in a church.

On December 29, 1935, Konstentschich succumbed to typhus in an isolation ward. He was laid to rest in the city of Stolbtsy, Belarus.
