Alexander Osadchy
Alexander Petrovich Osadchy was a Soviet military aviator who served as a Major General in the Air Force. He was born on May 29, 1907 in Znamenka, Kirovohrad Oblast, in a working-class family. After completing 7 years of primary school, he worked as an electrician at the Kiev-2 railway station. In 1929, he joined the Red Army and in 1931, he graduated from the Borisoglebsk Military Aviation Pilot School.
Osadchy served as a squadron commander in the Kiev Military District and participated in the national-revolutionary war in Spain from January to July 1937. During his time in Spain, he flew on a biplane I-15 and shot down a Do-17 bomber south of Madrid. He also destroyed two He-51 fighters in one battle over Teruel in early March. In one of his last battles over the Ebro River, he shot down two Fiat CR-32 fighters. Osadchy was awarded the Orders of the Red Banner and Lenin for his service.
During the Great Patriotic War (World War II), Osadchy commanded the 11th Guards Aviation Division in the 2nd Guards Assault Aviation Corps, 2nd Air Army, and 1st Ukrainian Front. By May 1945, he had completed 39 combat missions, inflicting significant damage to enemy forces. On June 27, 1945, he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union for his courage and military valor in battle.
After the war, Alexander Osadchy continued his service in the Air Force until 1949 when he entered the reserves. He lived in Kiev and passed away on March 3, 1981.
Osadchy's biography is marked by his bravery and skill as a fighter pilot. His achievements in combat and dedication to his country earned him the highest honors and esteemed reputation as a hero.
