Avet Adonts: Armenian Diplomat and Politician
Early Life and EducationAvet Robertovich Adonts was born on December 27, 1963, in Kyiv, Ukrainian SSR. He graduated from Yerevan School No. 55 in 1980 and the Faculty of Economic Cybernetics at Yerevan State University in 1985.
Early Career
Adonts began his career in 1985 as an economist at the Scientific Research Institute of Economics and Planning under the State Planning Committee of the Armenian SSR. From 1985 to 1986, he served in the Armed Forces of the USSR.
After completing his military service, Adonts returned to the Scientific Research Institute of Economics and Planning, where he worked as a junior research fellow and later as head of a research group from 1987 to 1991.
Diplomatic Career
Adonts entered the diplomatic service in 1991, joining the Ministry of External Trade Relations of Armenia as a chief specialist and later as assistant minister. He completed banking courses at UBS Bank in Geneva and worked in the Bilateral Economic Relations Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia as a second secretary from 1992 to 1994.
In 1993, he was awarded the diplomatic rank of second secretary and attended diplomatic courses at the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom. From 1994 to 1996, he served as second secretary at Armenia's Embassy in the Kingdom of Belgium. He was promoted to the diplomatic rank of first secretary.
Senior Diplomatic Positions
From 1996 to 1998, Adonts served as head of the International Economic Organizations Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia. He then worked as an advisor and later as Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary of Armenia's Mission to the European Union from 1998 to 2001. In 2003, he was awarded the diplomatic rank of Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary.
Political Career
In 2007, Adonts was elected as a member of the Armenian Parliament representing the Prosperous Armenia Party. He was appointed Chairman of the Standing Committee on European Integration of the National Assembly of Armenia.
Honors and Recognition
Adonts has received the diplomatic ranks of second secretary, first secretary, advisor, and Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary.
