Birth and Early Life
Born in Murmansk, Nikita Sergeevich Demin went by the surname Shmulevich, his mother's Jewish maiden name, from the late 1980s. He adopted the Hebrew name Avrom (Abraham) during this time.
Education and Activism
Shmulevich earned his education at Leningrad State University (LGU) in biological sciences. Reportedly, he participated in a secret laboratory investigating paranormal phenomena during his tenure at LGU, leading to his expulsion from the university at the request of the KGB.
Conversion to Judaism
In 1981, Shmulevich embraced Judaism and became an active advocate for emigration rights. As a result, he was arrested for "Zionist activities." However, his case was dismissed during the early stages of Perestroika.
Immigration to Israel and Military Service
Shmulevich immigrated to Israel in 1991, where he completed his rabbinical education. He currently resides in Hebron, a predominantly Arab city. Notably, he led an Israeli self-defense unit in combat against Palestinians.
Political Involvement
"Bea'ad Artzeinu" MovementShmulevich is the leader of the far-right hyper-Zionist movement "Bea'ad Artzeinu" ("For the Homeland"). The movement vehemently opposes Arabs and has supported causes such as Serbia and persecuted Soviet veterans in Latvia.
Association with "Eurasia"
In 2001, Shmulevich joined the political council of the "Eurasia" movement, led by Alexander Dugin. As a result of the movement's transformation into a political party in 2002, Shmulevich, an Israeli citizen, was no longer eligible for membership.
Religious Beliefs
Shmulevich is a Hasidic Jew and a member of the World Council of Bratslav Hasidim. He advocates for an "Eurasian" alliance of Israel and Russia, as well as Hasidism and Sufi Islam, in opposition to "Atlanticism" and Wahhabism.
Political Views
Shmulevich envisions the establishment of a Greater Israel extending from the Nile to the Euphrates, with a future monarchy. He argues that the "anti-Semitic and anti-Israeli elite" ruling Arab society should be replaced with loyalists to the State of Israel. This position extends to both Arab populations under Israeli rule in 1948-49 and 1967.
