Biography of Avtandil Ioseliani
Avtandil Ioseliani is a Lieutenant General and the Chairman of the State Department of External Intelligence of Georgia. He was born in 1950 in Tbilisi, the capital city of Georgia. In 1973, he graduated from the Georgian Polytechnic Institute. From 1974 to 1975, Ioseliani attended the Higher Courses of the KGB of the USSR in Minsk.
Early Career
In various years, Ioseliani held different positions within the KGB of Georgia. From 1975 to 1987, he worked as an operative officer, senior operative officer, and department chief. In the years 1987 to 1991, he served as the Deputy Chairman of the KGB of the Abkhazian Autonomous Republic, holding the rank of Colonel. From 1991 to 1992, Ioseliani became the Chairman of the KGB of the Abkhazian Autonomous Republic.
Later Career
In 1992 to 1993, Avtandil Ioseliani served as the Deputy Chairman of the Information and Intelligence Service of Georgia, with the rank of Major General. From October 1993, he became the First Deputy Chairman of the State Security Service. Starting from December 1995, he held the position of the First Deputy Minister of State Security, with the rank of Lieutenant General. Since September 1997, Ioseliani has been the Chairman of the State Department of External Intelligence of Georgia.
