About Ayub Guliev

Ayub Guliev is an Azerbaijani scientist, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, and professor. He is a specialist in comets and a corresponding member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS). He is also President of the Azerbaijani Astronomical Society, a member of the European Astronomical Society, and a member of the International Astronomical Union. Since 1997, he has served as the Director of the Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory (SHAO).

Scientific Activities

In his research on comets, Guliev has discovered over 50 effects. He has investigated the interaction between comets and planets and, in collaboration with S.K. Vsekhsvyatsky, predicted tectonic activity on Uranus's moons. Guliev also forecasted the eventual discovery of Neptune's rings and conducted detailed studies on the decline in comets' brightness. He explored and interpreted the distribution of nodes in long-period comets and developed a novel theory on the origin of short-period comets.

Scientific Achievements

- Creation of a new theory on the origin of periodic comets
- Formulation of a theory on undiscovered planets

- Development of a qualitatively advanced electronic catalog of comet orbits

- Establishment of a concept on trans-Neptunian cometary families

- Proposition of a novel theory on the genesis of short-period comets
Legacy and Recognition

Guliev has authored over 160 scientific publications, including two books. In honor of his contributions, the minor planet 18749 ayyubguliev was named after him.
