Turkish Model and Actress
Azra Akin is a Turkish model and actress of Dutch origin. She participated in beauty pageants and was crowned Miss Turkey and Miss World in 2002.
Early Life and Family
Azra Akin was born on December 8, 1981, in Almelo, a major city in the eastern Netherlands. Almelo is known for being home to the oldest football club in the country, Heracles Almelo. Her parents, Nazim and Ayda, emigrated from Turkey to the Netherlands in 1971. Azra has a younger sister named Doruk.
Modeling Career
In 1998, at the age of 17, Azra Akin caught the attention of the Turkish division of the modeling agency "Elite Model" and participated in the "Europe Elite Model" beauty pageant held in Nice, France, where she ranked 15th. She continued to work as a model in Germany and was featured in the "Otto" catalog.
Miss Turkey and Miss World
In 2002, Azra Akin won the title of Miss Turkey and went on to represent her country in the Miss World beauty pageant held on December 7, 2002, at Alexandra Palace in London. As the winner of the competition, Akin was crowned the queen of beauty and received a prize of $156,000 from the previous year's winner, Agbani Darego from Nigeria.
International Success and Career
During her reign as Miss World in the following year, Azra Akin traveled to various countries including the United Kingdom, Turkey, United States, New Zealand, Ireland, Jamaica, Australia, China, and many others. In 2003, she participated in the British reality show "The Games" and won a gold medal for her outstanding physical efforts. In 2004, Akin posed for postcards dedicated to the Eurovision Song Contest 2004, which were shown before each song.
Later Career and Personal Life
In 2010, Azra Akin emerged victorious in the dance competition show "Yok Boyle Dans," the Turkish version of "Dancing With the Stars." Akin is fluent in Dutch, Turkish, and English. She stands at a height of 176 cm and has brunette hair and brown eyes.
Since 2004, Azra Akin has appeared in numerous Turkish movies and TV series. For six years, from 2002 to 2008, she dated Turkish actor and model Kivanc Tatlitug.
