Early Life and Education

Baboucarr Seywas born in London, England in 1979 to Gambian parents. Shortly after his birth, his family relocated to West Africa, where he grew up. In his youth, Babou returned to the United Kingdom to pursue his education and work. He earned a degree in Microbiology from Imperial College London.

Transition to Acting

After graduating, Babou initially pursued a conventional career in accounting. However, he soon realized that his true passion lay in the world of theater and film. He enrolled in a drama school near Oxford and became actively involved in stage productions, including "A Midsummer Night's Dream."

Film and Television Debut

Babou made his screen debut in the mid-1980s, but it was not until the mid-2000s that he began to appear regularly in films and television shows. He had episodic roles in popular series such as "Silent Witness," "Law & Order: UK," and "Luther." By 2015, Babou had established himself as a respected actor and began to secure larger roles. He portrayed Martin, the arms dealer in the Martin Scorsese-produced action comedy "Free Fire." Another notable performance was his portrayal of the apostle John in the entire 12-episode first season of the historical drama series "A.D. The Bible Continues."

Leading Roles and Acclaim

Babou's breakthrough role came in 2016 when he starred as the lead in the drama "Damilola, Our Loved Boy." This film, based on the real-life murder of a teenager in London in 2000, earned Babou a British Academy Television Award nomination for Best Actor. He also played the leading character, Marcus, in the mini-series "Guerrilla," which chronicled the struggles of Black Power activists in 1970s Britain.

Recent Projects

Babou's subsequent projects included a role in the post-apocalyptic series "Into the Badlands" as Pilgrim, and a starring role as the father of a sexually abused son in the mini-series "Dirty Money."
