Biography of Bakhtiyar Artayev

Bakhtiyar Artayev, a Kazakhstani boxer, is widely recognized as an Olympic champion, a seven-time national champion, and an Honored Master of Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan. He began his boxing career at the age of 10 and quickly gained success in the sport.

Early Successes

In 1998, Artayev became the champion of Kazakhstan among youth boxers, showcasing his exceptional skills and dedication to the sport.

Olympic Triumph in Athens

Artayev's crowning achievement came in 2004 at the Olympic Games in Athens, where he won the gold medal in the welterweight category (up to 69 kg). On the final day of the Olympics, he secured the only gold medal for Kazakhstan, cementing his status as a national hero. Additionally, Artayev was awarded the Val Barker Cup as the best boxer of the Games. Notably, in the semifinals, he defeated Oleg Saitov, a two-time Olympic champion and one of Russia's most decorated boxers.
