Early Life and Musical Beginnings
Barbara Haščáková Fontana, born in Košice, Czechoslovakia (now Slovakia), began her musical journey at a tender age. At the age of six, she immersed herself in piano lessons, honing her musical prowess. Her passion for singing also blossomed, leading her to showcase her talents on the "Mini-Playback-Show," impersonating icons such as Michael Jackson, Madonna, and 4 Non-Blondes.
Joining Maduar
A significant chapter in Barbara's career commenced in February 1994 with her high-pitched vocals on the song "Pár bielych ruží" by the Eurodance group Maduar, featuring MC Erik Arest. Her exceptional voice captivated the group, resulting in her participation in all of their early album recordings.
MC Erik & Barbara: Eurodance Success
Despite the success of Maduar's "I Feel Good" album, Erik and Barbara sought to forge a new path. Together, they formed the duo MC Erik & Barbara, marking Barbara's transition to a full-fledged member of a Eurodance project. Her voice became the centerpiece of their album "U Can't Stop," propelling them to success with concerts, music videos, and accolades.
Solo Career and Transition to the United States
Barbara embarked on her solo career with the release of her hit song "Láska dokáže nad hladinou." In 1997, she unveiled her debut solo album, followed by a soundtrack for the film "Fountain for Suzanne" and a lead role in the musical "Mary Stuart." In 1999, after releasing her second solo album, she traveled to the United States, where she primarily pursued her solo endeavors.
Background and Family
Barbara's parents played a pivotal role in nurturing her artistic talents. Her father was an artist at the Slovak Academy of Arts, while her mother was a sound engineer at Slovak Television and later a magazine editor. Barbara has an older brother who inspired her musical pursuits.
