Biography of Barbara Hulanicki
Barbara Hulanicki is a renowned fashion designer and the founder of the fashion brand Biba. She studied at Brighton Art College (now known as the University of Brighton) and won a competition organized by 'London Evening Standard' in 1955.

Early Career
Hulanicki began her career in the fashion industry as a freelance illustrator for publications such as 'Vogue', 'Tatler', and 'Women's Wear Daily'. By the 1960s, she had gained recognition for her sketches and regularly appeared in 'Daily Mirror' and 'WWD'.

Founding of Biba
In 1964, Hulanicki founded the fashion brand Biba, which ultimately made her famous worldwide. She opened the first Biba boutique on Kensington High Street in London with the help of her husband, Stephen Fitz-Simon. The store quickly became a haven for bohemian style and was known for its decadent atmosphere. Hulanicki's clientele included popular figures of the time, such as Mick Jagger, David Bowie, and Brigitte Bardot. The boutique offered feather boas, unisex t-shirts, velvet jeans, velvet trouser suits, and radical mini-skirts, all of which were incredibly stylish and highly sought after by celebrities.

Later Career
In 1976, Hulanicki was forced to close her iconic boutique, marking the end of her independent career. However, she continued to work in the fashion industry under other brand names, including 'Fiorucci', 'Cacharel', and 'Minirock'. In the 1980s, Hulanicki lived in Brazil and the United States but made occasional returns to England to relaunch her clothing and cosmetics line. Despite her efforts, she struggled to regain mainstream success in the fashion world.
Interior Design and Return to Fashion
Hulanicki later turned her focus to interior design, where she quickly made a name for herself. She worked on a series of hotels, restaurants, nightclubs, and discos, and even designed personal apartments for several celebrities. In the new millennium, Hulanicki made a comeback in the fashion industry through a collaboration with the brand 'Topshop' in 2009. She introduced her own spring-summer collection featuring short dresses, skirts, wide-legged trousers, and tops made from lightweight, brightly colored fabrics with playful prints and minimal accessories. The collection was praised for its fun and summery vibe.
Today, Barbara Hulanicki's clothing is sold through the 'Topshop' retail network. In 1983, she published her memoir, 'From A To BIBA', which provides insights into her remarkable journey in the fashion world.
