Barbara Brylska, who starred in the iconic Soviet film "The Irony of Fate, or Enjoy Your Bath!" (1975), found solace in her daughter after enduring a tumultuous first marriage. Despite facing heartbreak and miscarriages, Brylska welcomed Barbara Kosmal into the world on February 26, 1973. Determined to provide her daughter with a life of beauty, Brylska envisioned a career path similar to her own.

Modeling and Acting Breakthrough

Following her graduation, Barbara Kosmal embarked on a creative journey that included a role alongside her mother in the 1988 drama "Czternasty Dzień Półksiężyca" ("The Fourteenth Day of the Crescent Moon"). Her striking features, reminiscent of Audrey Tautou, caught the attention of the Paris-based modeling agency Marilyn Agency. Kosmal spent a year in France and continued her modeling career in Japan and New York.

While her modeling endeavors gained recognition, Kosmal's talent as an actress also garnered attention. Director Jerzy Hoffman considered casting her in his film "Fire and Sword," but the opportunity never materialized.

Personal Life

Unlike her mother, Barbara Kosmal was not known for her romantic entanglements. She briefly dated actor Józef Skolomowski during the filming of "Motyw cienia" (1993), but their relationship remained platonic. Her true love, Xaveri Żuławski, the son of director Andrzej Żuławski, became the tragic cause of her untimely demise.

Tragic Accident

In May 1993, Barbara Kosmal was preparing to add another lead role to her filmography before showcasing "Motyw cienia" to the world. However, fate took a cruel turn. While traveling back home with Xaveri Żuławski behind the wheel of a Fiat 126p, the car crashed into a tree. Barbara Kosmal perished at the scene, leaving her fiancé with minor injuries.

The media and public sensationalized the tragedy, scrutinizing Brylska's attire at her daughter's funeral. Overwhelmed by grief and the loss of her beloved daughter, Brylska considered ending her own life.

Legacy

Barbara Brylska dedicated her life to her surviving son, Ludwik, who was born ten years after Barbara Kosmal.
