Barbara Schett is a former Austrian tennis player. She first appeared on the WTA Tour in 1991, primarily competing in ITF tournaments. In 1992, Schett achieved her first victory in Zaragoza. By 1993, she entered the Top-200 rankings.

In 1994, Schett made her debut in a Grand Slam tournament, but was unable to qualify for the Australian Open. However, she competed in the main draw of the other three Grand Slam tournaments that year, although she was eliminated in the first round in each. By April 4, 1994, Schett reached the 99th position in the rankings, and by the end of the year, she dropped to 100th place but remained in the Top-100.

In 1996, Schett reached the fourth round of the Australian Open and the second round of the US Open and Wimbledon. At the French Open, she was eliminated in the first round. She also achieved notable performances in other tournaments, reaching the quarterfinals of the Bausch & Lomb Championships, winning the Internazionali Femminili in Palermo, and reaching the semifinals of a Tier I tournament in Moscow. She also defeated Magdalena Maleeva, the 8th-ranked player in the world. These impressive performances helped Schett rise to 38th place in the rankings from 83rd.

In 1997, Schett reached the third round of the Australian Open but was eliminated in the first round of the French Open. She reached the second round of the US Open and Wimbledon. That year, she also reached the fourth round of the Miami Masters and the third round of the Hilton Head tournament, where she was defeated by Iva Majoli and Martina Hingis, respectively.
