Early Life and CareerSorana Cirstea is a Romanian tennis player who reached the quarterfinals of the French Open in 2009 in singles. She started playing tennis at a young age of 4 when her mother, Lilliana, took her to a tennis section. Her father's name is Mihai, and she has a younger brother named Mihnea. Cirstea is fluent in Romanian, English, and Spanish, and is currently learning French. She is coached by Portuguese specialist Antonio van Grichen and often trains at the Mouratoglou Academy in Paris.
Playing Style and Achievements
Cirstea has an elegant but pragmatic playing style, minimizing errors. She may not be the fastest mover on the court, but her long stride and good game reading give the impression that she effortlessly reaches the balls. She has a reliable two-handed backhand and a sharp right-hand stroke. As a good doubles player, Cirstea plays confidently at the net and from mid-court. However, her psychological stability often leaves room for improvement, as she tends to lose confidence in key moments of a match.
Cirstea had a successful career in junior tournaments, reaching a career-high ranking of 6th in the junior rankings.
