Biography of Barry Lam
Barry Lam, born in 1949 in Shanghai, is a renowned Taiwanese entrepreneur and computer developer. He spent his childhood in Hong Kong before moving to Taiwan. He obtained his higher education at the National Taiwan University, earning both a bachelor's and master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
After university, Lam decided to venture into his own business. Together with his classmate, he co-founded Quanta Computer. The company, established in 1988, is now a leading manufacturer of laptops in Taiwan. Lam currently holds the positions of Chairman of the Board and CEO of Quanta Computer.
Quanta Computer has achieved significant success under Lam's leadership. According to statistics, every fourth laptop sold is manufactured in Quanta Computer's factories. In 2004, the company reached a production volume of 2 million laptops per month, equivalent to approximately one portable computer per second.
Lam's wealth was estimated at 1.3 billion dollars in 2008, making him one of the wealthiest individuals in Taiwan. He is married and has two children.
