Early Life and Education

Beatrix Ong was born in London, England in 1976. Though born in England, she spent her early childhood in Hong Kong. Upon her return to the United Kingdom, Ong attended Roedean School in Brighton. She then pursued education at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, the London College of Communication, and the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City.

Early Career

Ong embarked on her fashion career in 2002 as an intern at Harper's Bazaar magazine in New York City. Simultaneously, she became the creative director for Malaysian designer Jimmy Choo's "Jimmy Choo Couture" label. Amidst her magazine and shoe design duties, Ong also assisted Lulu Guinness in creating a handbag line.

The BEATRIX ONG Brand

In 2002, Ong established her eponymous brand, BEATRIX ONG. After two years of hard work, she opened her first store in London in 2004, having previously sold her designs exclusively in New York. That same year, Ong designed shoes for the Financial Times, catering to both office and leisurewear. In 2005, she created a poster for the film "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," which was displayed at the "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Science Museum Exhibition" in London.

Collaborations and Accolades

Throughout 2006, Ong worked with artist and graphic designer Natasha Law on her footwear collection. She subsequently decided to relocate her London boutique to the prestigious Burlington Arcade, which was realized in 2007. In 2008, Ong launched her first menswear collection under the label "ONG LONDON," which quickly became a commercial success. Following this triumph, she partnered with the British Fashion Councils, who identified BEATRIX ONG as "one to watch." "In Style" magazine awarded BEATRIX ONG the "Hot Accessories Label of the Year" accolade.

Commercial Successes and Partnerships

In 2009, Ong collaborated with Dover Street Market to create a limited-edition sneaker collection. Later that year, she updated Nike's iD Blazer Trainers, which sold out within days. A second store was briefly opened on Carnaby Street in November 2009. She ended the year with a one-year contract with the English National Ballet.

Throughout 2010, Ong continued her successful collaborations: she designed sneakers for women with Nike and clothing and shoes for Aquascutum. She also became a stockist at Aquascutum stores. Additionally, famed photographer Bryan Adams created her portrait, while Boy George photographed her for the "Get Tested Campaign."

Later Career and Honors

Alongside designer and EXIT Magazine founder Jaime Perlman, Ong shot a short film using an iPhone 4 in 2011. For her contributions to the fashion industry, she was awarded the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) by the Queen.
