Benjamin Kogan: A Moldovan Pedagogue and Jewish Religious Figure

Benjamin Kogan was a prominent Moldovan educator and Jewish religious leader.

Education and Pedagogy

In 1939, Kogan graduated with a degree in Law from the University of Iași. Subsequently, he taught in Jewish and Moldovan schools in Telenești. As head of the academic department, he authored several widely acclaimed textbooks and методические разработки (teaching materials) on Moldovan literature for Moldovan secondary schools.

Rabbinical Service

Alongside his pedagogical career, Kogan served as the rabbi of the synagogue in Telenești. He played a pivotal role in preserving the synagogue within the town.

Repatriation and Legacy

In the late 1980s, Kogan repatriated to Israel. Moldovan writer Boris Druță paid tribute to Kogan in his 2004 book, "Flori de dor pentru Șalom" (Flowers of Love for Shalom). In its review of the book, the Moldovan journal "Biblio Polis" referred to Kogan as a "legendary researcher of Romanian language and literature."
