Elizabeth Barry Scale was born into an Irish immigrant family in Hoboken, New Jersey, on September 30, 1884. Her cousins, Edith and Mabel Taliaferro, were also acclaimed actresses. Known for her remarkable work ethic, she began her career in vaudeville and later progressed to Broadway.

Rise to Stardom

In 1913, Barriscale made her cinematic debut. Her portrayal in "The Woman Michael Married" (1919) showcased her passion for Shakespearean theater and her swimming prowess. By 1918, she had signed a lucrative contract to produce 16 films with B.B. Features and Roberson Cole Company.

International Tours and Theater Triumphs

Barriscale embarked on a world tour in 1919, capturing her travels for a film production. She later returned to Broadway in "The Skirt" (1921) and "Women Go On Forever" (1928). Her dedication to her craft was evident in her meticulous preparation for the role of a housewife.

Later Career and Legacy

Barriscale's film career waned in the early 1930s with the advent of sound films. She subsequently established her own production company, Bessie Barriscale Productions. The actress passed away on June 30, 1965, in Kentfield, California, and was laid to rest beside her husband at Mount Tamalpais Cemetery.
