Biography of Bigas Luna
Bigas Luna was a Spanish film director, screenwriter, and artist. He was born on March 19, 1946, in Barcelona, Spain. Luna began his career as a designer, founding the studio 'Estudio Gris' in 1969 with Carlos Riart. His early works, exhibited in the early 60s, showcased his interest in conceptual art and new visual technologies.

In 1986, Luna, already an esteemed and unconventional director, moved to Tarragona, an ancient city on the east coast of Spain, to dedicate himself to painting. However, in 1990, director Andrés Vicente Gómez convinced him to return to filmmaking and offered him the director role for the drama 'Las edades de Lulú', a film that gained attention from a wide audience.
While still pursuing his passion for painting and photography, as seen in his numerous exhibitions, Bigas Luna started his famous 'Trilogía Ibérica' trilogy with the film 'Jamón Jamón' in 1992. This film marked the debut of sixteen-year-old Penélope Cruz. It was followed by 'Huevos de Oro' in 1993 and 'La teta y la luna' in 1994.
Later, with the short film 'Collar de Moscas' in 2001, created for the internet, Bigas Luna revived his interest in avant-garde experiments and audiovisual formats. In 1999, he established the 'Taller Bigas Luna' project with Catalina Pons, which led to their exploration of digital cinematography. Their collaboration also involved the creation and promotion of innovative projects and new talents through the development of PLATAFORM BL in 2002.
Bigas Luna's career as a versatile artist, encompassing filmmaking, painting, and design, made him a unique artist who effortlessly navigates between different art forms. One notable example is his project 'Microcosmos', which was exhibited in 1990 at the Galería Metropolitana de Barcelona. Currently, 'Microcosmos' has evolved into an interactive project on the director's website, allowing visitors to experiment with his works.
Luna also served as the director and producer of a large-scale multimedia installation called 'Origins' in the Spanish Pavilion at the Shanghai Expo 2010. The installation combined live flamenco performances, sculptures, and videos projected by over twenty projectors.
Currently, Luna is preparing to film the adventure-fantasy horror film 'Segon origen', set to premiere in 2012.
