Early Life and Education

Bisher Al-Khasawneh was born in Jordan on January 27, 1969. His father, Hani Al-Khasawneh, was a prominent lawyer and former minister of information. Bisher completed his law degree from the University of Jordan and further pursued his studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) at the University of London, where he earned a master's degree in international relations, diplomacy, and economics. He then obtained his Ph.D. from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and a diploma in public management from Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Diplomatic Career

Al-Khasawneh began his diplomatic career in 1991 as an attaché at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He served in various positions, including third secretary-attaché at the embassy in the United Kingdom, director of the European Mediterranean Affairs Department, and director of the Media Department and official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2003 to 2004, he represented Jordan at the United Nations.

Between 2012 and 2016, Al-Khasawneh served as ambassador to Egypt, Kenya, and Ethiopia, concurrently acting as Jordan's permanent representative to the League of Arab States. In 2018, he became ambassador to France and permanent representative to UNESCO.

Political Appointments

In 2016, Al-Khasawneh was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs in the cabinet led by Hani Al-Mulki. The following year, he became Minister of Justice.

In 2019, King Abdullah II appointed Al-Khasawneh as his advisor on communication and coordination, and later in 2020, as an advisor on political affairs.

Prime Minister of Jordan

After the resignation of Omar Razzaz's cabinet on October 4, 2020, King Abdullah II appointed Al-Khasawneh as Prime Minister on October 8, 2020. He assumed the role on October 12, 2020, and concurrently serves as Minister of Defense.

Personal Life

Al-Khasawneh is married to actress Rana Sultan, and they have three children.
