Blaine Neal: American Baseball Pitcher
Early Life and EducationBlaine Neal was born on April 6, 1978, in Marlton, New Jersey. He graduated with honors from Bishop Eustace Preparatory School in 1996. Neal was a standout baseball player in high school and received a scholarship offer from Virginia Commonwealth University. However, he opted to sign a contract with the Florida Marlins.
Professional Career
Florida MarlinsNeal began his professional career in 1996 with the Rookie-level Gulf Coast Marlins. He moved up to the Low-A Utica Blue Sox in 1998, but his progress was hindered by an arm injury that required surgery. After the surgery, Neal returned to the mound in 1999 with the Single-A Kane County Cougars.
In 2001, Neal was promoted to the Portland Sea Dogs and made his Major League debut with the Marlins on September 3, 2001. He spent most of the 2003 season with the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes.
San Diego Padres and Boston Red Sox
After leaving the Marlins, Neal played for the San Diego Padres in 2004 and the Boston Red Sox in 2005. He continued to pitch effectively, but his elbow injury resurfaced, forcing him to take a hiatus from baseball.
Colorado Rockies and Detroit Tigers
In 2005, Neal signed with the Colorado Rockies. However, his elbow injury flared up again, and he left the team to focus on his health. He eventually joined the Detroit Tigers, where he remains today.
