Weighton, a former teacher and engineer, had three children, ten grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren. He emphasized the importance of avoiding death in his pursuit of longevity. "I've had all the usual things: colds, flu, malaria, two or three operations," he said. "I should have been dead, but somehow I've managed to hang on."

Despite his exceptional age, Weighton shied away from public attention. He requested that Queen Elizabeth II refrain from sending him birthday greetings to save taxpayers' money. "I'm not that keen on the fuss," he stated. He preferred meeting new people and engaging in meaningful conversations.

"A lot of them look a bit miserable, but when they see my label, they start smiling," he said.
