Biography of Bob Woodward

Bob Woodward, born Robert Upshur Woodward, in 1943 in Geneva, Illinois, U.S., is an American journalist and author. He grew up in Wheaton, Illinois, and attended Yale University, where he studied history and English literature and received his bachelor's degree in 1965. Woodward was a member of the fraternity 'Phi Gamma Delta' during his time at Yale. After completing his studies, he served in the United States Navy for five years and attained the rank of lieutenant. In August 1970, Woodward began studying law while working as a reporter for 'The Washington Post' and attending The George Washington University.

Woodward's journalism career took off when he, along with journalist Carl Bernstein, conducted an extensive investigation into the Watergate scandal in the early 1970s. This investigation led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon in 1974. Woodward and Bernstein published a book titled 'All the President's Men' in the same year. They followed up with another book called 'The Final Days' in 1976, which focused on Nixon's resignation.

Throughout his career, Woodward has written 16 popular non-fiction books, several of which became bestsellers. Some notable works include 'Veil: The Secret Wars of the CIA' (1987), 'The Choice' (1996), 'Shadow: Five Presidents and the Legacy of Watergate', and 'Plan of Attack' (2004) about the Iraq War. Woodward has also conducted six lengthy interviews with President George W. Bush, totaling 11 hours, which set a record for the longest time spent with a sitting president.

One of his recent works is 'Obama's Wars,' which delves into the presidency of Barack Obama. Woodward has established himself as one of the most influential investigative journalists and popular authors in the United States. He continues to work at 'The Washington Post' and remains an active writer.

In his personal life, Woodward is married to Elsa Walsh, an author who writes for 'The New Yorker.' They have two daughters together. Woodward currently resides in Georgetown, a suburb of Washington, D.C.
