Biography of Robert Bonnet

Robert Bonnet was born on September 27, 1952, in London. He attended Dulwich College, an ancient private boys' school located in Dulwich, one of the calmest areas in South London since 1619. Later, he studied English and French at the University of Sussex.

Before becoming a BBC journalist, Bonnet had various occupations, including being a refuse collector, a DJ, and working in advertising at Benton and Bowles agency. He started his professional career in radio as a freelance assistant at Radio Brighton in 1978 and joined BBC as a producer at Radio Norfolk in the summer of 1980. He was later transferred to the news program "Newsbeat" on Radio 1 and in the autumn of 1982, Bonnet joined the sports department of BBC Sport. In 1985, he worked at BBC East.

Robert's television career began when he joined the BBC News team in February 1987 as a sports reporter and correspondent. In 1993, his report about Sydney winning the bid to host the 2000 Olympic Games, which aired in the nine o'clock news bulletin, earned him the "RTS Sports Report of the Year" award. In September 1995, Bonnet became a sports reporter for the morning program "BBC Breakfast" and remained in that role until October 2005. He also covered major sporting events, including the FIFA World Cup, Commonwealth Games, Olympic Games, and other important sporting events.

In addition, Robert Bonnet is the director of the internet TV service "The Country Channel" and continues to host "Extra Time" on BBC World, a sports interview program, as well as the "Today" show on BBC Radio 4. He is invited as a guest commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live and programs like "Sportsweek," "Sportsnight," and "Chiles on Sunday."

During an interview with South African Paralympian Oscar Pistorius on September 6, 2011, Bonnet asked him about ethical issues related to his participation in the 4x400m relay at the World Championships in Daegu. Pistorius responded, "I think it's offensive towards me, and I think this interview is done," before leaving the studio.

Robert Bonnet is married to Margaret Harvey, and they have two daughters, Ellie and Clare. He manages the company "Five Iron Productions," specializing in recording, editing, and presenting charitable events and corporate golf.
