Biography of Bobby Jindal

Bobby Jindal, born on June 10, 1971, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is an American politician who served as the Governor of Louisiana. He has been in office since 2008. Prior to becoming governor, Jindal held various positions in government, including Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services from 2001 to 2003, and representing Louisiana in the U.S. Congress from 2003 to 2008. In 2008, he was considered a potential candidate for the Republican Party's vice presidential nomination.

Early Life and Education

Bobby Jindal, whose real name is Piyush Jindal, was born to Indian immigrants Amar and Raj Jindal on June 10, 1971, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. At the age of four, he began calling himself "Bobby" after a character from the television series "The Brady Bunch." Jindal attended Brown University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in biology and public policy in 1991. He then pursued further education at the University of Oxford, where he received a master's degree in political science in 1994.

Career and Political Accomplishments

After completing his education, Jindal worked at McKinsey & Co, a well-known consulting firm, from 1994 to 1996. In 1996, with the help of Congressman Jim McCrery, Jindal became the secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals in the administration of Republican Governor Mike Foster. During his tenure, Jindal achieved significant success in the economic recovery of the state's healthcare program.

In 1998, Jindal became the director of a federal national commission tasked with reforming the healthcare system, and in 1999, he assumed the role of head of the University of Louisiana System, which comprises eight universities with a student population of around 80,000. In 2001, Jindal was appointed Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services by President George W. Bush. However, in 2003, he left the position to run for governor of Louisiana.

Although Jindal faced defeat in the gubernatorial race against Kathleen Blanco in 2003, he went on to win a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2004, representing a conservative district in Louisiana. He served in Congress from January 2005 until 2008 when he was elected as the Governor of Louisiana.

As governor, Jindal focused on implementing anti-corruption reforms, such as requiring state officials to disclose their sources of income and assets. He also pursued conservative legislation, including laws on school vouchers, teaching creationism, restrictions on stem cell research, and tax and administrative spending cuts.

Personal Life and Beliefs

Bobby Jindal is known for his strong religious beliefs and conservative views. He has been a vocal opponent of gun control and has advocated for the display of the Ten Commandments in public institutions. Jindal has also been a staunch opponent of abortion.
