Biography of Bohdan Benyuk

Bohdan Benyuk, a Soviet and Ukrainian actor, theater and film director, television presenter, and People's Artist of Ukraine, was born on May 26, 1957, in Bytkiv, Nadwirna Raion, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast.

Education and Early Career

Benyuk graduated from the Kiev State Institute of Theatrical Arts named after Karpenko-Karyi in 1978. Following his graduation, he worked at the Kiev Young Spectator Theater from 1978 to 1980. In 1980, he became an actor at the Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theater in Kiev, where he worked for several years and became one of its leading actors.

Television Career

In addition to his theater work, Benyuk also hosted several entertainment television programs, including "The Bachelor Show" on the First National Channel and "White Crow" on Channel "1+1". He co-founded the Theater Company "Benyuk and Khostikoyev" with Anatoliy Khostikoyev and Miroslav Hrynyshyn.

Political Career

Benyuk is affiliated with Ukrainian nationalists and is a member of the All-Ukrainian Union "Freedom" (VO "Svoboda"). He ran as a candidate for the party in the 2007 Ukrainian parliamentary elections. Since 2010, he has been a member of the Kiev Regional Council. In 2012, after successful parliamentary elections, he became a People's Deputy of Ukraine of the VII convocation.

Controversies

On March 18, 2014, Benyuk, along with his party colleagues, physically forced the resignation of the director of the National Television Company of Ukraine, Alexander Panteleimonov, due to their dissatisfaction with the celebration of Crimea's return to Russia. These actions were condemned by the Ukrainian public and Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk. More than thirty People's Artists of Ukraine signed a letter stating that it would be an honest act for Benyuk to renounce his title of People's Artist of Ukraine.

Personal Life

Bohdan Benyuk is married and has two daughters and a son. He comes from a family of artists, with his older brother Petro Benyuk also being a People's Artist of Ukraine.
