Early Life and Education

Boris Dubossarsky was born in Moldova, a renowned composer, violinist, violist, and educator. He graduated from the G. Musicescu Moldovan Institute of Arts in 1968 (violin) and 1973 (composition).

Orchestral and Ensemble Career

Dubossarsky played with the MSSR Television and Radio Committee Orchestra (1964-1965) and the Moldavian State Philharmonic Orchestra (1965-1967). From 1966 to 1971, he played a pivotal role in establishing the Chișinău Yiddish National Musical-Dramatic Theater as a violinist and conductor, composing music for productions like "Zyamke Kopach" and "Hershele Ostropoller." Later, he became a member of the Moldavian Radio and Television Committee String Quartet (1967-1986) and the musical director of the "Moldovan Violinists" ensemble.

Teaching and Recognition

Since 1986, Dubossarsky has taught at the Moldavian National Academy of Music, Theater, and Fine Arts, where he is a professor. His students include award-winning violinist Julian Gîrnet and pop guitarist Liviu Știrbu. Dubossarsky was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Moldova in 1989 and Maestru în arte of the Republic of Moldova in 2007.

He has also composed music based on other Yiddish theater productions and incorporated Jewish melodies into his works, such as his 12 Synagogue Melodies.
