Early Life and Military Service
Born on June 24, 1917, in Bezhitsa, Boris Alekseevich Khud graduated from two years of the Kiev Mechanical Technical School before working as a turner at the "Arsenal" plant and an instructor at the Central Aeroclub in Kiev. He joined the Red Army in 1938 and completed his training at the Odessa Military Aviation Pilot School the same year.
World War II and Combat Exploits
In June 1941, Khud began his military service on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. By August 1943, as the commander of a squadron in the 146th Fighter Aviation Regiment, he had flown 327 combat sorties and engaged in 52 aerial battles, claiming 11 enemy aircraft shot down personally and 1 in a group attack.
On September 2, 1943, Khud was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for his bravery and military prowess in combat against enemy forces. He continued to serve throughout the war, accumulating a total of 387 successful combat sorties, 67 aerial battles fought, and 18 enemy aircraft shot down personally (one in a group with comrades).
Post-War Career
In 1946, Major Khud retired from active military service and resided in Kiev. He worked as the head of the driving school for the Kiev DOSAAF organization and as a group leader at a scientific research institute.
Legacy and Recognition
Throughout his career, Boris Alekseevich Khud was decorated with numerous medals and awards, including the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner (twice), the Order of Alexander Nevsky, and the Order of the Patriotic War, 1st degree.
His legacy continues to be honored by the 115th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment, whose combat banner is adorned with the inscription "Soviet Lithuania." The regiment's museum showcases Khud's heroic exploits as one of the many veterans who fought for the Soviet Union during the Great Patriotic War.
