Early Life
Born into a family of musicians, the Russian writer and sailor embarked on his literary and maritime journey. During the Great Patriotic War, he found himself evacuated to the Urals, before returning to his homeland in 1946.
Education and Career
After completing his education at the Philological Faculty of Mogilev Pedagogical Institute in 1962, he relocated to Minsk in 1964. His career spanned roles as a special correspondent for the newspaper "Literatūra i mastactva," correspondent for Belarusian Radio, and senior editor at Belarusian Television.
Maritime Experiences
Alongside his journalistic pursuits, he embarked on numerous voyages on various ships, including whaling, fishing, diving, and scientific vessels from 1962 to 1964, 1966 to 1968, and 1971. Becoming a professional sailor, he participated in geographical expeditions in the Bering Sea and Sea of Okhotsk, as well as in the retrieval of sunken vessels in the Arctic.
Writing Career
Beginning his publishing career in 1962, he wrote exclusively in Russian. His maritime experiences inspired his novels and short stories, focusing on seafaring and marine industries. He also wrote scripts for documentary and feature films. Recognized for his literary contributions, he became a member of the Union of Writers of the USSR in 1987.
Late Life
In 1995, he left Minsk and settled in Karmiel, Israel, where he currently resides in the settlement of Katzrin.
