Biography of Boris Trajkovski
Boris Trajkovski, the President of Macedonia, was born on June 25, 1956, in Strumica. He graduated from the Faculty of Law at the Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje. After his studies, he worked as a legal consultant at a construction company in the capital for ten years.
Political Career
Trajkovski began his political career in 1992, when Macedonia gained independence from Yugoslavia. He joined the supporters of Macedonia's independence led by Ljubčo Georgievski and became his advisor on foreign affairs. After Georgievski's party won the elections, Trajkovski assumed the position of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
In 1999, when the term of President Kiro Gligorov, an elderly comrade of Marshal Tito, expired, Trajkovski was nominated as a candidate for the presidency. On December 5, 1999, he was elected as the President of Macedonia.
Current Challenges
In recent days, Trajkovski has been tirelessly working to address the intense attacks by Albanian extremists from neighboring Kosovo on the city of Tetovo, the second-largest city in the republic, located only 60 km from the capital, Skopje. The situation has been referred to as a "war." Despite the crisis, Trajkovski has remained dedicated to his duties and has even interrupted a government meeting to meet with a delegation of citizens from Tetovo. He promised to take energetic measures to overcome the crisis, including seeking assistance from abroad.
Personal Life
Boris Trajkovski is married to his wife Vilma, and they have a son and a daughter.
