Biography of Brad Faxon

Bradford John Faxon Jr. was born on August 1, 1961, in Oceanport, New Jersey. He attended Furman University, where he played on the golf team, before turning professional in 1983. Faxon went on to become one of the most successful players on the PGA Tour during the 1990s.

Golf Career

Faxon won eight tournaments organized by the PGA Tour and represented the United States in two Ryder Cup competitions against Europe. He topped the PGA Tour money list in 1996, 1999, and 2000, and finished 13th in 2005. Faxon attributed his success on the golf course to confidence, stating, "My only secret is confidence... I just try to hole it every time, like I've just made a million in a row."

Injury and Recovery

However, Faxon's career took a downturn in 2003 due to a knee injury, and he had his worst season in 14 years in 2004. He made a comeback in 2005, although he didn't win his first tournament until four years later, and ranked 45th on the PGA Tour list.

Charitable Work

Aside from his golfing achievements, Faxon demonstrated his generosity by co-founding the non-profit organization "Billy Andrade/Brad Faxon Charities for Children, Inc." with fellow PGA Tour professional Billy Andrade in 1991. As of 2005, the organization had donated over $3 million to help underprivileged children in Rhode Island and southern Massachusetts.

For their philanthropic efforts, Andrade and Faxon were awarded the "Charlie Bartlett Award" by the Golf Writers Association in 1999. Since 1999, they have also served as hosts for the CVS Charity Classic, an annual charity golf tournament held in June at the Rhode Island Country Club.

Faxon also leads his own youth golf organization. While he may not have established a reputation as a particularly great master of the sport, Faxon has proven himself to be one of the best players in the history of golf.
