Biography of Brad Garrett

Brad Garrett is an American actor, voice-over specialist, and stand-up comedian. He is best known for his roles in the comedy television series "Everybody Loves Raymond" and "'Til Death". His real name is Brad H. Gerstenfeld and he was born in Woodland Hills, California. After graduating from a local high school, Brad enrolled at the University of California, but dropped out after two months to pursue comedy seriously.

Early Career

Garrett began his career performing at nightclubs in Los Angeles. In 1984, he became the champion of the television show "Star Search" in the comedy category, winning a prize of one hundred thousand dollars. Shortly after, Brad was invited to "The Tonight Show" with Johnny Carson, which was a huge achievement for his age. His performance with Carson gained national attention and soon he was working with stars like Diana Ross and Liza Minnelli. He also had the opportunity to open shows for Frank Sinatra, David Copperfield, Smokey Robinson, Sammy Davis Jr., Julio Iglesias, "Beach Boys" and "Righteous Brothers" in Las Vegas.

Television Career

After reaching such a high level of success, Brad decided to transition to television. His first role was in the animated series "Hulk Hogan's Rock 'n Wrestling" where he voiced Hulk Hogan. He then appeared in episodes of "Funny Men vs. Funny Women Week" and "Super Password". In 1988, he landed a regular role in "First Impressions" and had a guest appearance in "Roseanne". He also had a recurring role in "The Pursuit of Happiness". In addition to these roles, Garrett voiced a character in the animated series "Transformers".

Rise to Stardom

Brad's real television fame came a little later when he was cast as Robert Barone in the popular family comedy "Everybody Loves Raymond". Around the same time, he played a hitman in "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" attempting to kill Will Smith's character. Garrett's deep and distinctive voice helped him excel in voice-over work. In addition to the aforementioned projects, his voice was featured in "A Bug's Life", "Asterix and the Vikings", "Justice League Unlimited", "Finding Nemo", and "Ratatouille".

Awards and Recognition

For his role in the series "Everybody Loves Raymond", Brad Garrett was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Awards five times and won three times in 2002, 2003, and 2005, all in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy.
