Brandon Kozun: A Hockey Journey from Canada to Russia

Early Life and Career

Brandon Kozun was born on March 8, 1990, in Los Angeles, California to an American father and a Canadian mother of Ukrainian descent. His family moved to Calgary, Alberta, when he was young, where he began his hockey career. He played alongside Wayne Gretzky's son in his early days.

International and AHL Career

As a junior, Kozun represented Canada, winning a silver medal at the 2010 World Junior Championships. After graduating from junior hockey, he spent five seasons in the American Hockey League (AHL), the second-tier league in North America. In the 2014/2015 season, he made his NHL debut with the Toronto Maple Leafs, playing 20 games and recording four points.

Move to Europe

In 2015, Kozun signed with Jokerit of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), the top professional league in Russia. He had a successful season with Jokerit, scoring 49 points in 58 games.

Lokomotiv Yaroslavl

Before the 2016/2017 season, Kozun signed with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. He became the first player in Lokomotiv's history to score a hat-trick in the opening game of a season. Kozun has since become a key player for Lokomotiv.
