Brendan Benson is an American musician and singer-songwriter known for his versatility as a multi-instrumentalist. He plays guitar, bass, keyboards, and drums, showcasing his musical prowess on each.

Early Career: One Mississippi and Lapalco

Benson's debut album, "One Mississippi," was released in 1996. Despite critical acclaim, it failed to achieve commercial success, leading to his departure from Virgin Records. He toured with a band that included Woody Sanders on drums and Topper Ramello on bass, performing alongside Heatmiser and playing in Japan before disbanding in 1997.

His sophomore album, "Lapalco," released in 2002, gained more critical recognition and achieved modest commercial success, selling over three times more copies than "One Mississippi." The albums' songs garnered notable placements, including "Good To Me" on the TV show "Teachers" and "Tiny Spark" in the film "Along Came Polly."

The Raconteurs and Continued Success

In 2006, Benson joined The Raconteurs, a band featuring Jack White of The White Stripes, Jack Lawrence, and Patrick Keeler. Together, they released "Broken Boy Soldiers" and "Consolers of the Lonely," both critically acclaimed and commercially successful albums.

My Old, Familiar Friend and Recent Work

Benson released his fourth solo album, "My Old, Familiar Friend," in 2009. This album featured collaborations with Dean Fertita, who also played keyboards for The Raconteurs and currently performs with Queens of the Stone Age and The Dead Weather.
