Biography of Brendan Gleeson

Brendan Gleeson is an Irish actor, director, and screenwriter. He was born in Dublin on May 29, 1955. Gleeson had a passion for reading from a young age and attended St. Joseph's CBS in Fairview, where he participated in the theater club. He initially worked as a teacher of Irish and English at Catholic Belcamp College while pursuing his acting career in semi-professional Dublin productions. In 1991, Gleeson decided to focus solely on acting.

Gleeson's film career began when he was 34 years old. He gained popularity in Ireland for his role as Michael Collins in the TV film "The Treaty," for which he won the Jacob Award in 1992. He went on to appear in films such as "I Went Down," "Michael Collins," "Troy," "Cold Mountain," "Kingdom of Heaven," "Lake Placid," and "Mission: Impossible II." He received critical acclaim for his portrayal of mob boss Martin Cahill in the thriller "The General" in 1998.

Gleeson is also known to younger audiences as the dark wizard Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody in the fourth, fifth, and seventh Harry Potter films. His son, Domhnall Gleeson, also appeared in the Harry Potter series as Bill Weasley.

In 2006, Gleeson starred in the short film "Six Shooter," which won an Academy Award. He made his directorial debut with the film adaptation of Flann O'Brien's novel "At Swim Two Birds." The film was produced by Parallel Pictures and featured actors such as Michael Fassbender, Colin Farrell, Gabriel Byrne, and Cillian Murphy.

Gleeson is married to Mary Weldon since 1982 and they have four sons, two of whom, Domhnall and Bríain, are also actors.
