Early Life and Artistic Education
Brett Gelman, an acclaimed American actor, was born on October 6, 1976, in Highland Park, Illinois. Raised in a Jewish household, his father, Ira, worked as a camera accessories salesman. Impassioned by the arts from a young age, Brett's childhood was filled with laughter and a love for performance.
Inspired by the comedic brilliance of the Marx Brothers, Brett pursued acting as a student at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. There, he excelled in Shakespearean and Chekhovian theater productions, honing his craft.
Improvisation and Stand-Up Comedy
After graduating, Gelman moved to New York City with his classmate, John Daley. They joined The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, a renowned improv troupe and training center. Brett also hosted a television show for the New York lottery, but later showcased his unique comedic style with his own show, "1000 Cats."
Film and Television Success
Gelman's film and television career began with small roles in sitcoms such as "Californication." His breakout performance came in the 2010 action comedy "The Other Guys," where he played Hall.
