Early Life and Education
Brian Britt was born in Tampa, Florida and raised in Durant, Oklahoma, where he graduated from Durant High School in 1983. He attended the University of Oklahoma (OU), where he marched with The Pride and eventually became its drumline leader. In 1987, he earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree.
Director of The Pride
In 2001, Britt was appointed Director of The Pride, the marching band at OU. As director, he supervises a staff and team of three faculty, six graduate assistants, and 40 section leaders who prepare The Pride for its numerous performances. Britt oversees all aspects of the band's performances, including research, show design, travel arrangements, budget management, and scheduling.
Academic and Professional Accomplishments
Britt is an Assistant Director of the OU School of Music and an Assistant Professor of Music. He also conducts the OU School of Music Symphony Orchestra and teaches courses in conducting and marching band management.
In addition to his university responsibilities, Britt serves as a faculty advisor for Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma chapters throughout New Mexico, Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, and Oklahoma. He has also chaired OU's Annual Campus Development Campaign and served on the Undergraduate Studies Committee and Football Game Operations Committee.
Outside Engagements
Beyond OU, Britt is active as a guest conductor, lecturer, adjudicator, arranger, and consultant. He has made numerous acclaimed recordings. He resides in Norman, Oklahoma with his wife Alicia and daughter Avery.
