Biography of Brian Pillman

Early Life and Football Career

Brian Pillman was born in 1962 in Cincinnati, Ohio. After graduating from a local school, he attended Miami University in Oxford, where he played college football for the Miami Redhawks as a defensive tackle. After college, Pillman was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Ed Block Courage Award

Pillman received 'The Ed Block Courage Award', which is given to players who serve as an example to future generations. This award recognized his dedication and courage on and off the field.

Transition to Wrestling

After a few years, Pillman decided to end his football career and moved to Canada. There, he trained under the guidance of renowned wrestler Stu Hart and his sons. Together with Bruce Hart, Pillman formed a tag team called 'Bad Company'. In April 1987, they won the tag team championship by defeating Ron Starr and David Sierra. However, their reign as champions was short-lived as they were defeated by Jerry Morrow's team in October 1987. After months of training, Pillman and Hart avenged their loss at the end of 1987.

National Wrestling Alliance and Success

In 1989, Pillman returned to the United States and signed a contract with the National Wrestling Alliance. His high-flying style and signature moves like the 'bropkick' and 'flying crossbody' gained him recognition. In 1991, he won the WCW World Light Heavyweight Championship twice. Pillman also briefly collaborated with Extreme Championship Wrestling in 1994. Later in 1996, he began performing for the World Wrestling Federation, but his contract was terminated prematurely after a year.

Personal Life and Tragic End

Brian Pillman was married to Melanie Pillman, with whom he had three children. On October 5, 1997, Pillman was found dead in a hotel room in Bloomington, Minnesota. The official cause of death was attributed to heart problems and atherosclerosis. Tragically, his daughter Alexis, also known as 'Sexy Lexi Pillman', pursued a wrestling career but died in a car accident in November 2009 at the age of 26.
