Education and Legal Career

Buck graduated from Colgate University with a law degree in 1967 and earned a Juris Doctorate from Columbia University in 1970. In 1983, he was assigned to the London office of American law firm White & Case.

In 1988, Buck was invited to become a partner in the newly established London office of the American law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. He has been with the firm ever since, practicing as a lawyer in the areas of international competition, European mergers and acquisitions, project finance, capital markets, and privatization.

Chelsea Football Club

Through his legal work, Buck became acquainted with Roman Abramovich, the former owner of the Russian oil company Sibneft. In 2004, Abramovich invited Buck to become the president of Chelsea Football Club.
