Biography of Brunonia Barry
Brunonia Barry is an American writer, speaker, and businesswoman. Born and raised in Massachusetts, she studied literature and creative writing at Green Mountain College in Vermont and the University of New Hampshire. Barry is one of the founders of the Portland Stage Company, a theatrical company based in Maine. During her time in New Hampshire, she spent a year in Dublin, where she attended a course on James Joyce's "Ulysses".
Barry's love for theater led her to her first job in Chicago, where she organized advertising campaigns for local theater productions. After some time, she moved to California and found work in the film industry. After spending 10 years in Hollywood, Barry returned to Massachusetts and founded a company called "Smart Games," specializing in puzzle manufacturing.
In 2008, Barry made her debut as a writer with her novel "The Lace Reader," which quickly became a bestseller worldwide. The book received rave reviews from critics at publications such as The New York Times, People, Elle, The Washington Post, and The Dallas Morning. It was published in 30 different languages and received numerous awards, including Amazon.com's "Best of the Month," People's Choice from People magazine, Borders' Choice, Barnes & Noble's Choice, and Best Book by Bloggers 2008.
Brunonia Barry is also known for her talent as a speaker and has delivered speeches across the country on a variety of topics. She has been involved in fundraising for the Kappa Denver Hospital, worked with The Women's Network in North Essex, participated in the World Alive Conference in San Diego, collaborated with the Red Hat Society, and contributed to events such as WordStock Festival in Portland, New England Crime Bake, Women's Lunch Place Fundraiser, the Writer's Conference on Grab Street, the American Library Association, the Texas Library Association, the Mobile Public Library, and the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
Barry has established herself as a perfect representative for historical communities, sewing and lace-making associations, women's groups, libraries, and universities. Currently, the writer resides in Salem, Massachusetts, with her husband and beloved golden retriever.
