Brian Oviedo: A Journey From Costa Rica to the Premier League

Early Career and European Breakthrough

Brian Oviedo, a Costa Rican footballer, embarked on his professional journey in 2009 with his home club, Saprissa. In 2010, he joined Danish side Copenhagen on a three-year contract. While his initial year in Copenhagen saw limited playing time, Oviedo found his form on loan at Nordsjælland during the 2011 season, becoming a regular starter and helping the team lift the Danish Cup.

Success in Denmark and Move to England

Upon his return to Copenhagen in 2011-12, Oviedo's role in the team expanded significantly. He featured in 30 games, scoring two goals, and claimed the Danish Superliga and Cup titles. In August 2012, he made a move to English Premier League club Everton on a four-year contract.

Emergence at Everton

Oviedo made his debut for Everton in September 2012 as a substitute against Swansea City. However, his initial season was largely spent as a backup player. In the 2013-14 season, injuries to regular left-back Leighton Baines opened the door for Oviedo to establish himself in the starting lineup. He impressed with a goal and assist in a 4-0 victory over Stoke City and scored a crucial goal against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Injury Setback and International Career

Oviedo's momentum at Everton was unfortunately halted in January 2014 when he suffered a double leg fracture in an FA Cup match against Stevenage. The injury ruled him out for the rest of the season.

Internationally, Oviedo represented Costa Rica at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in 2009. He made his senior debut in 2010 and played two games at the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Despite featuring in nine qualifiers for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, he missed the tournament due to his injury.
