Saint Brynolf: A Revered Figure in Swedish History
Brynolf, a prominent figure in the Roman Catholic Church, was ordained as the Bishop of Skara in 1278. Prior to his appointment, he had pursued his studies in Paris and served as a canon at the cathedral in Skara.
Conflict with King Magnus I
During his tenure as bishop, Brynolf engaged in a dispute with King Magnus I of Sweden. This disagreement led to Brynolf's temporary departure from his episcopal seat from 1288 to 1289.
Canonization Process
The process of Brynolf's canonization was initiated in 1416 by King Eric of Pomerania. The following year, Pope Martin V officially declared Brynolf a saint. The Catholic Church commemorates his feast day on February 6th.
