Biography of Robert Schuller
Robert Schuller, a former American evangelist, pastor, motivator, and writer, is widely regarded as one of the most famous and successful evangelists on American television. Although Schuller has now retired, his children continue his work and spread the word of God to the masses.

Early Life and Education
Robert Schuller was born near Alton, Iowa. In 1950, he received a Master of Divinity degree from the Western Theological Seminary. He was later appointed as a minister in the Reformed Church in America. Schuller worked in Riverdale, Illinois for some time before relocating to Garden Grove, California.

Founding the Crystal Cathedral
In 1955, Schuller founded the first public church in Garden Grove, California, which was based in a drive-in theater. As his congregation grew, Schuller purchased 10 acres of land and began constructing a new church. The construction began in 1958 and was completed in 1961, costing $3 million. The new church could accommodate both the congregants inside and over 500 cars parked outside. In 1968, Schuller added the "Tower of Hope" to the building, making it the tallest structure in the district.

Hour of Power
Starting from 1970, Schuller's sermons were no longer limited to the residents of Garden Grove. The television program "Hour of Power" was launched, and a total of 1500 episodes were filmed. It is considered to be the most popular church TV show in the world.

Succession and Controversy
On January 22, 2006, Schuller's son, Robert A. Schuller, took over as the senior pastor of the Crystal Cathedral, while Schuller senior announced his retirement. However, on October 25, 2008, Schuller senior removed his son from the position due to differences in views. On June 11, 2009, Schuller's daughter, Sheila Schuller Coleman, became the new pastor. Eventually, on May 11, 2012, Sheila left the church to start her own.
Legacy
On January 24, 2013, Bobby Schuller, the grandson of Robert Schuller senior, became the pastor of the "Hour of Power" program. In August 2013, Robert Schuller was diagnosed with esophageal cancer that had metastasized to his lymph nodes. In September 2013, he underwent additional treatment and medical professionals expressed hope that chemotherapy and radiation therapy could prolong his life.
