Biography of Calvin Harris
Calvin Harris is a Scottish singer-songwriter, producer, and DJ. Despite being the owner of his own record label, he is best known for his achievements in the field of singing. Let's take a closer look at the interesting journey of this talented Scot and how well he has been received by music lovers.
Early Life
Calvin Harris, whose real name is Adam Richard Wiles, was born in Dumfries, Scotland. From a young age, he was a passionate football fan, but he decided to pursue a career in music, a field far from sports. Wiles started making music as a teenager, recording simple demo compositions, mostly in the electronic genre.
Move to London and Early Success
At the age of 17, Wiles began working to save money for a move to London, as he believed the capital offered more opportunities for success. In 2006, things started to look up for Wiles when Tommie Sunshine discovered his work on the social networking site MySpace. This led to the release of his first album through Sunshine's label, Xylophone Jones Recordings.
Shortly after, Wiles signed contracts with Three Six Zero Group, EMI, and Sony BMG. Interestingly, before signing these contracts, the musician had moved back to Dumfries from London, as he was unable to find work in the capital.
Breakthrough with "I Created Disco"
Wiles' first album, "I Created Disco," was released in June 2007. It featured a collection of electronic compositions inspired by the 80s. Harris promoted the album through a concert tour in the UK, performing alongside "Faithless" and "Groove Armada." The album was well-received, eventually reaching gold status in the UK with over 100,000 copies sold.
The first single from the album, "Vegas," was released in limited edition vinyl, while the mass sales awaited the release of the next single, "Acceptable in the 80s."
Misadventure with Lost Album
In April 2008, Harris announced that the only copy of his new album, which took him seven months to create, was lost due to an error by the baggage department at Heathrow Airport. However, in April 2009, Harris admitted that he had embellished the story. While his luggage was indeed lost at the airport, his laptop with the album recordings was not in the baggage. Harris fabricated the album's demise to buy more time to finish working on it.
The album, "Ready for the Weekend," was finally released in August 2009 and was well-received. It topped the UK album charts, and its lead single also reached the top of the corresponding chart. After the album's release, Harris embarked on another tour.
Unconventional Performance and Collaborations
On November 14, Harris stormed the stage of the "X-Factor" TV program... with a pineapple on his head. He was escorted off by security, and later he apologized on Twitter, stating that he intended to mock the show.
In 2011, Harris joined Rihanna's European tour as one of the supporting musicians. It was believed that Harris' unique talent would contribute to creating truly memorable and spectacular concerts.
Continued Success and Upcoming Album
On August 22, 2012, Harris announced that his third studio album would be titled "18 Months." The album was expected to feature collaborations with renowned musicians such as Rihanna and Florence Welch.
In March 2014, Harris premiered his new song "Summer" on the British radio station "Capital FM." This song became the first single from his fourth studio album. In June, he released another single, "Blame," and revealed the album's cover. The work on the album is still ongoing, and it is too early to determine its exact release date.
